Christian Fly Fising Round Up Board of Directors

Marc Williamson, Camp Director

Currently, I am an Assistant Professor at Warner Pacific College in Portland Oregon.  I have been involved in some type of teaching for most of my life.  I began teaching downhill skiing right out of college. I began my classroom teaching in 1972, and later became an administrator both a Principal and Assistant Superintendent, all the time continuing to teach.  Following my retirement from public school I began working at the graduate level teaching. Working with graduate student in education has been a blessing, being able to give back to the profession that I have loved for over 40 years.

I was privileged to be on the original Board of Directors of the Christian Fly Fishing Roundup when we started back in 1999.  I have been involved in fly fishing from the time my father purchases my first fly rod from JC Penney’s.  I first became involve in the fly fishing industry while working for Doug Stewart at Stewart’s Custom Tackle in Gresham.

Since that time I have become a member of the following professional staffs:

ü  Temple Fork Outfitters

ü  Whiting Feathers

ü  Angler’s Sport Group (Daiichi Hooks)

ü  Teeny Fly Lines

ü  Peak Vice

Currently I present and lecture in Oregon, Washington and Montana.  My presentations are “Fly Fishing Central Oregon”, “Fly Fishing Fall River”, “The Crooked River”, and most recently “Fly Fishing Fletcher Lake, BC”.

I first accepted the Lord over thirty years ago while going through some difficult times in my life.  I have enjoyed being involved in music ministry in most of the churches that we have attended.  My wife Jo and I currently go to Warren Community Fellowship, in Warren Oregon.

Gary Brown, Administration

I was born in 1939 into the home of a Friends Church pastor and we moved frequently until I was 9 years old.  Born in Kansas, 4 years in south Texas, then Colorado, Kansas again, Colorado again and then to Newberg, Oregon, my home since 1948.

As a child and youth I was very active in sports and music.  These came into clearer focus during college and then as I started my career as an educator they narrowed into hunting, fishing, golf, softball, and more music (vocal).  I've had the privilege of teaching public school (11 years), being the principal of Kingsview Christian School (10 years), Director of Alumni and Parent Relations (8 years at George Fox University, GFU graduate admission counselor for the School of Education (5 years), and now semi retired to travel, fish, and play golf (at Chehalem Glenn Golf Course where I work).

The major focus of my life has been my wife, 2 children, and 4 grandchildren surpassed only by my love for and commitment to Jesus Christ, my personal Lord and Savior.

I now work at a beautiful golf course so I've narrowed my recreational interests to golf and fishing, especially fly fishing   It does seem that my fly fishing has focused 98 percent on trout and I've enjoyed several trips into central British Columbia to fish many different lakes. I love spending time on the water in my Willie drift boat or pontoon boat.

Becoming associated with the Northwest Christian Fly Fishers Inc. and the annual Christian Fly Fishing Roundup has been both a joy and a great learning experience.  It is the basis for fellowship with Christian men who share a love for this sport and the development of my personal fly fishing skills.

Bob Dexter

I grew up in Grants Pass, Oregon, with a lot of interest in Gods' great outdoors, camping/fishing/hunting.  I graduated from George Fox University in 1976 with a Bachelors degree in Christian Ministries. After graduation I returned home, where I was a self-employed carpenter/cabinet maker, working along side my Dad and two brothers.  I also served as a youth director for many years, using my experiences from the outdoors and college degree to lead and assist in many other ministries of the church.

I started pursuing fly fishing and tying flies when two gentlemen at my church introduced me in the early 1980s.  Since then, I have really enjoyed making them a regular practice.

I married my wife, Kathy in 1978, and we have two grown and married children, Stacy & Tyler. We have one grandchild at this time.  I am currently employed at George Fox University, as the cabinet maker since 1997.

Christian Flyfishing Round Up has meant a great deal to me as a camper and now it's a blessing and honor to be able to serve on the board.

Paul Anderson

I currently reside in The Dalles, OR, with my wife, Peggy, of 13 years.  We have 5 grown children and 7 grandkids.  I work for Bob Stone Freeway Auto Center selling Subarus and GM vehicles.

Growing up in a Christian family, I was saved when I was in the 8th grade.  I learned at young age that my decision to follow Christ was what was important.

I learned to fly fish when I was 17 years old and was self taught.  I have been a student of the sport for more than 35 years.  I was originally just a trout fly fisherman, but for the past 5 years I have been focusing on fly fishing for salmon and steelhead in the Columbia River. I have taught private flyfishing classes on my own as well as through the local community college in The Dalles.  I am a certified Boyscout flyfishing merit badge instructor, and I have taught fly tying and casting for the Shuyler Productions outdoorsman show in central and eastern Washington.

I have been excited to served CFFR for a couple of years now as I enjoy assisting many campers in developing their flyfishing skills.

Adrian Cortes

Being born in the Philippines, I've always been surrounded by water and have been intrigued by the creatures that inhabit the liquid world.  At an early age, having moved to the United States, I discovered fishing and, but more amazingly, the One who created all the wonders in my life, Jesus Christ.  Although I have not always considered His presence and grateful for His plan in my life, I can now look back and I am brilliantly amazed to experience His touch in each process of my journey.  My whole life, He has been there being the "Author and Completer" of my faith.  I've enjoyed the joys and challenges that He has allowed me to experience in life and in angling.  I share my life's experiences with my bride, Amy, and my 2 girls, Emma and Lauren.  More than anything, I love hanging out with the 3 women that God has given me.  As a profession, I am employed by Kaiser Permanente as a critical care nurse and have been an RN since 1999.

Since this is somewhat about fishing, I must say that I have fished for all sorts of fish and angled for them in many different ways. Living near the ocean as a child, I fished handlines with bait and naturally gravitated toward the rod and reel.  From saltwater to freshwater, I was consumed by how I could get the fish to bite.  It didn't matter if it was pan-size with fins, weighed in the kilos, or prized for sashimi, I wanted to cast to it, get it to take my lure, and land it.  I didn't discover the challenge of flyfishing until 2002, when Amy and I went on an anniversary trip to Yosemite and Lake Tahoe.  It was there that I realized that trout were picky in their natural element and required a more refined presentation.  With trout ignoring my spinners, I bee-lined it to the nearest K-Mart to purchase their fly "pole" special with the gaudy flies that came along with it.  My first fly rod caught fish was a rainbow trout fingerling that was literally the size of my finger.  I still remember setting the hook only to watch the baby trout go airborne up into the bushes behind me!  Since then, I have learned a little more about flyfishing and have truly enjoyed its beauty.  This journey of angling is a gracious gift to me from God.  Sometimes, and honestly for most of my journey, it has taken precedence in my life; but, I am gradually seeing that to truly enjoy fishing and life itself I must see and feel the presence of Jesus in all that I experience.  For everything we experience and behold is for His glory!
